JUSTICE: Four Men Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Gang Rape, While Underage Rapist Awaits His Fate

Four men were on March 21, 2014, Friday, sentenced to life imprisonment for gang-raping an 18-year-old telephone operator in Mumbai.
According to BBC, three of the convicts were found guilty for the gang rape of a 22-year-old woman, a photojournalist, in the same deserted mill complex in August, 2013.
After the victim reported to the police about the rape and the case made headlines across India, the first victim came forward, declared that she had been also raped at the same location a month earlier.
The telephone operator identified three of the men accused in the photojournalist’s case as among the four who raped her.
A fifth of the accused was underage at the time of committing the crime. He is being tried in a juvenile court.
It would be noted that the attacks in Mumbai were shocking as this city is known as one of the safest for women in India.
This crime sparked outrage, which was also fuelled by a fatal gang rape of a student in a bus in New Delhi in December, 2012.
After the weeks of protests, the Indian government had promised swifter prosecutions for rapists. Laws against sexual violence were made stricter as well.
