Governor Godswill Akpabio stepping out of Vista jet in Uyo, capital of Akwa-Ibom State
Accroding to the investigation conducted by Sahara Reporters, Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio has spent about $10 million (about N1,648,500,000) on maintenance of the Bombardier Challenger 604 private jet.
Governor Akpabio hired the jet from a Swiss-based VistaJet Holding SA airline holding company and has since had over 25 air trips, or about 600 hours of service.
The VistaJet company is owned in part by Mr. Kola Aluko, who is a member of the advisory board, assisting with the West-African expansion of the luxury aviation company. It is worth noting that Mr. Aluko is reportedly close to Nigeria's Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.
The Governor and his escort spent close to $400,000 per day for the period of the jet charter, which started in January 2010. They used the jet for trips both within Nigeria and abroad.
In 2012, the Governor bought a Bombardier jet for $45 million, and a few months after that, a bullet-proof van from a US armory company for $1 million dollars.
