Rivers Assembly passes confidence vote on Amaechi

Rivers Assembly passes confidence vote on Amaechi
Rivers State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Chibuike Amaechi. The confidence vote was passed yesterday at the 158th Legislative Day, with 26 out of 36 lawmakers signing a motion to that effect.
Leader of the House, Chidi Lloyd, representing Emohua Constituency, had in a motion held the stance of the lawmakers to append their signatures following recent criticism against the governor.
During debate on the motion, several lawmakers, who spoke in favour of the decision maintained that the governor had done well in stirring the ship of governance and development of the state.
They upheld that the motion was timely in encouraging him to do more for the state, and challenged any attempt to discredit him. In his ruling, Speaker of the House, Otelemaba Dan-Amachree, put the prayers of the motion to vote, with 23 members voting in favour, while three members abstained.
The House also voted in favour of a special session to be held with the governor to enable the lawmakers convey the confidence vote and commend him for his leadership of the state.
In a twist of reactions, however, member representing Obio/Akpor Constituency II, Michael Chinda, had said that the governor was merely doing his work as chief executive of the state and did not deserve any accolade for doing his job for which he had been elected.
