Female Police Officer Killed In Kano

A female police officer in Kano was shot and killed early on Tuesday. A source with the Kano State Police Command told our correspondent that the dead officer worked in the Zone 1 office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

Source revealed that some yet-to-be identified gunmen on a motorcycle shot the officer as she waited for a mechanic to do the tire balancing on her car. She was reportedly in her full police uniform at the time she was killed. Our source revealed that the officer, whose name was not yet disclosed, was headed for work.
“The body of the officer was immediately taken to the Murtala Muhammed Specialists Hospital in Kano,” said a police source. He vowed that the police would do all in its power to trace the criminals who escaped from the scene immediately after shooting the officer. “We want to know who did this and why they went after an innocent woman doing her job,” he added.

The police also told that two persons sustained gunshot wounds and were treated at a hospital in Kano.
Musa Daura, the state commissioner of police, confirmed the shooting death of the officer. He stated that police officers were combing the area where the homicide occurred in a bid to apprehend the criminals.
Many residents of the city continue to live in fear following a recent spike in the number of homicides and terror attacks in the city. “You can see that many people now avoid the streets of this ancient city. This is because we have decided to remain indoors rather than face massacres by unknown gunmen,” our correspondent quoted one city resident as saying.
