The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro
has debunked the latest allegations that the Ministry operates illegal
websites to defraud Nigerian applicants.
This was contained in a statement from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC)'s headquarters and was signed by its Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Okeh.
The Senate Joint Committee on Federal Character Commission and Inter-governmental Affairs, Labour and Employment, during its investigative sitting accused the Ministry of creating such websites to defraud applicants. Moro stated that the Ministry had never designed any websites for the purpose of recruitment into any of the agencies under it supervision.
"The umbrella body saddled with the responsibility of recruitment, promotion, appointment and discipline is the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigrations and Prisons Board (CDFIPB) and its processes of recruitment does not include online submissions." The Ministry, according to him, had not commenced any process of recruitment recently.
The Minister hinted that the Ministry may decide to engage consultants in its employment process in the nearest future in order to check-mate corrupt and sharp practices. Moro stresses that with the effort of the Civil Defence in fighting employment scams, over 460 scammers have been arrested with over a hundred prosecuted in different courts across the Federation as well as the discovery of over 30 illegal websites designed to defraud job seekers.
Moro called on applicants to report any payment of money to staff of the Ministry or any of its agencies, adding that such reporter will be rewarded.
