An Abuja based lawyer, JohnBull Adaghe, has faulted Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole for cancelling the local government election held in the state.
Adaghe in a statement on Sunday, said it was “undemocratic and laughable” for the governor to allegedly declare candidates from his party as winners when the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission was still collating results.
He added that the council election which had been cancelled twice in the past by Oshiomhole was “bad precedent and big blow on democracy in Nigeria.”
He said, “The onus is now on the judiciary to restore the hope of the common man because it is glaring that the election was still ongoing when the result was being declared by EDSIEC, so the question is, which result did the state government use declaring the APC candidate winner?”
Following the declaration and swearing in of the APC candidate as Chairman of Esan North East Local Government council, Chairman of the PDP in Edo State, Chief Dan Orbih declared that his party was going to court to challenge the election result released by EDSIEC.
Orbih said PDP had all the election results with evidences to declare the party’s candidate; John Yakubu as the winner of the council election.
