An unidentified ex-militant on Tuesday attempted to commit suicide over unpaid benefits by climbing a telecommunications mast in Abuja.
The ex-militant was said to have climbed the mast beside the Federal High Court, Abuja and threatened to jump to his death.
Policemen and officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) rushed to the scene and persuaded him to change his mind and come down from the mast.
Spokesman for NEMA, Manzo Ezekiel, confirmed the incident.
On March 13, 2012, a man identified as Mallam Inuwa Tawakalitu, climbed the same mast and threatened to jump to his death.
The man, who was suspected to be ill, said he wanted to kill himself over some debts owed him by two highly influential Nigerians.
He was dissuaded from killing himself and eventually descended the mast.
