The Govenor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, has approved the immediate reopening of the Lagos State University (LASU) for normal academic activities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Hakeem Bello, revealed this to newsmen in Ikeja on February 21, 2014, Friday.
According to the statement, the reopening was in the interest of the students and in compliance with the recommendation of the state House of Assembly Ad-hoc Committee on the recent disturbances in the school.
Gov. Fashola has also approved N51million for the repairs of the institution’s property and facilities damaged during the period.
He also urged the students to return peacefully for normal academic activities, starting from February 24, 2014, Monday, and to be of good conduct.
It would be recalled that LASU authorities shut the Institution down on January 23, 2014, following students’ protest over hike in fees and inability to access the registration portal for second semester examination.
Lots of damage has been made to the Institution during the protest.
