Three On Trial For Stealing N135m

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned two women and their alleged male accomplice before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja for stealing N135m belonging to a Lagos firm, Lily Pond Container.
The women, Tejumola Okemakinde and Ige Egbeyemi, were arraigned along with Olukayode Adeoye before Justice Olutoyin Ipaye.
Also arraigned along with the defendants were their companies – Povyte Ventures Ltd.; Whales and Chase Ltd.; and Tenumola Onike Enterprise Ltd.
They all pleaded not guilty to all the 34 counts of conspiracy, stealing, forgery, uttering and use of false documents preferred against them by the EFCC.
EFCC prosecutor, Mrs. Fadeke Giwa, alleged that the defendants conspired with Irene Egbeyemi, who is said to be at large, to steal the money belonging to Lily Pond Container Ltd. in Apapa, Lagos, between May and September 2011.
The prosecution alleged that the defendants forged documents and bank cheques to facilitate the theft.
It also alleged that money was deposited in the defendants’ respective accounts with Guaranty Trust Bank, First Bank of Nigeria Plc and Stanbic IBTC.
According to her, their alleged offences contravened Sections 275, 285, 363, 364 and 401 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
The judge ordered them to be remanded in prison pending the hearing of their bail application slated for November 11.
