Late Angela Onyeador’s children, family fight over her estate

The family late Angela Onyeador-Mayson left behind are at war over her estate.  The parties involved have even dragged one another to court.

Ikem and Adaora, two adopted kids of the late socialite and her husband, Captain Samuel Mayson had dragged Angela’s late brother’s children, Alexander Onyeador, Martin Onyeador, Thomas Onyeador and Nkemdilim Onyeador to an Ikeja High Court restraining them from tampering with the real and personal estate of Angela Onyeador-Mayson.

They (Ikem and Adaora) are claiming to be beneficiaries of the property late Onyeador-Mayson left behind.  The property in contention are a storey building on 29, Balarabe Musa Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos, the deceased Lagos residence and her art gallery and the one on Plot 167, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.

Since the death of the art aficionado, the family she left behind have been at war over her estate, a development which had led to court cases at the Ikeja High Court, Ikeja, Lagos.

The court had on October 9, 2013, ordered that the defendants (Alexander, Martin, Thomas and Nkemdilim) be restrained from laying claim to the real and personal estate of late Angela Onyeador-Mayson, pending the outcome of the matter.  The order seemed not to be effective as the defendant insisted they are not aware of any court directive.  Their defence counsel, George Obute had claimed no court processes was served or pasted at his office or on any Angela Onyeador-Mayson property.

Counsel to the plaintiffs, Onyebuchi Aniakor claimed otherwise.  The trial judge, Justice I. Harrison directed a new processes be served to enable the court hear their motion.  The case was adjourned to November 25, 2013.

Meanwhile, a heavy presence of security operatives were noticed at the contentious property on 29, Balarabe Musa Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos owned by late Angela Onyeador-Mayson.  That was when we visited the place on Friday, November 1, 2013.  The street was heavily guarded by mobile police men, another security personnel manned the entry point of the late Onyeador’s residence.  This is the house her adopted children presently reside.  The security personnel whom we spoke to said there was nobody around to attend to us.  He also confirmed there is a court case involving the family of late Onyeador.

Late Angela Onyeador-Mayson died on Sunday, June 17, 2012, in the United States of America.  She was buried at Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi, Lagos.  Barely one year after, her only surviving sister, Ebele also joined her ancestors.  Their eldest sister, Stella, one of the eldest wives of late Odumegwu Ojukwu had passed on years back.
