The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kwara State chapter, on August 22, 2013, Thursday, issued an ultimatum to dealers of sachet water to revert the price from N10 to N5.
The student body, which gave the order in Ilorin, said sellers of packaged water have been given a one-month ultimatum to comply with the directive.
Mr. Ibrahim Immam, the chairman of the organisation, in a statement, said that the association would prevent `pure water’ companies from selling their commodities on campuses across the state if the hike was not reversed.
The statement revealed that pure water manufacturers had hiked prices of water from N5 to N10 per sachet, thereby causing untold hardship to students in various institutions in the state.
“Failure to comply will warrant the mobilisation of support from students in other states to prevent entrance into our campuses in Kwara,” the statement read.
“Water is freely given by God to man. If government or firm wants to refine it, good; but not to the extent of using it to inflict hardship and pain.”
In the statement, the student body also issued a 10-day ultimatum to the State Government to provide the bus they promised the organisation as a replacement for the Student Union Bus belonging to the Offa Polytechnic that was burnt during the Offa/ Erinle crisis.
