Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Paralysed By Strike

Medical and health workers in the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital started a strike on Wednesday which had paralysed medical services and other activities.

A NAN correspondent who visited the hospital on Friday reports that most of the offices were closed due to the strike.

The worst hit departments are radiology, family medicine and medical laboratories, as only security guards were seen keeping vigil on the structures.

Other affected departments are specimen collection laboratory, pharmacy and physiotherapy.

A relative of a patient, Abu Mohammed, said that majority of the patients who had the means to patronise private health institutions left the hospital since Thursday.

Mr. Mohammed, who lamented the situation, urged the authorities concerned to ensure quick resolution of the crisis.

‘’Strike will not augur well for our country particularly in the health sector where majority who attend public health institutions are common people.

‘’We hope the government and the striking workers will see reason and resolve the issue immediately,’’ he said.

The Assistant Director, Information, of the hospital, Aminu Inuwa, said the strike had negatively affected its services.

“Once a part of a system is not working, it will definitely affect the entire system,” he said.
