The Vice Chancellor of the newly approved Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, on Friday said the institution would concentrate on medicine, social sciences and the humanities.
Bilbis, who said this at a news conference in Birnin Kebbi, added that the disciplines would be its core academic areas on take-off in the next academic session.
He said the institution would be made a centre of excellence in line with local requirements and international standards.
The vice chancellor said the required infrastructure would be put in place for the beginning of academic and administrative activities in 2014.
He said recruitment would be based on merit while a conducive teaching and learning environment would be provided.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new university is located in Kalgo Local Government Area.
The Federal Government has already approved the appointment of Alhaji Ibrahim Mungadi as the pioneer Registrar of the university
