The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the British Airways plane, which developed technical problems on Monday morning in Abuja, took off on Tuesday.
Yakubu Dati, the General Manager, Communication of FAAN, said that the plane took-off at about 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Mr. Dati said that the problem occurred while the plane was about to take-off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to London.
“They had a technical problem while boarding yesterday. But as I am talking to you now, it has been rectified,” he said. “Our own is to provide a good airport, it is the responsibility of the airline to ensure that their planes are in good condition.”
One of the passengers aboard the flight, who pleaded anonymity, said the plane with flight number 0082, which was scheduled to take-off at about 8.15 a.m., was rescheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday.
“The plane was schedule to take-off by 8.15 a.m. and was preparing for take-off, when the right engine of the plane just stopped working and then we heard a noise and later saw smoke from the engine.
“The engineers tried to fix the engine, when they could not, the pilot announced that all passengers should vacate the plane, before it was towed back to apron.
“The flight was later cancelled, we were booked into a hotel, the flight was rescheduled to take off again by 10 a.m., but we could not until this afternoon when they called us for re-boarding,’’ she said.
