Bianca, Ojukwu’s Family In The Mix

As the crisis in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) takes a turn for the worse, it has become apparent to many that the widow of the late leader of the party, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, is not aloof. So also is the son of Ojukwu, Emeka jnr.
Bianca is in support of the governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi to the consternation of the party’s embattled national chairman, Victor Umeh.
It did not come as a surprise that Bianca, who has never hidden her respect and admiration for Obi, even when the late Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu was alive, showed unalloyed support to the faction loyal to him and has warned Umeh to desist from making inflammatory comments in the media.
At a stakeholders meeting of party members held at the Enugu residence of late Ikemba, Bianca was reported to have warned Umeh who was absent at the meeting that if he did not retrace his steps, he will be rendered as a king without a kingdom.
In her words: “This party must function as a national party. We are calling on our governors to strengthen this party at all levels.
The legacies of Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu will not die in Umeh’s hands. If he does not retrace his steps, we will render him a king without a kingdom.” She also expressed dismay at what she described as the destabilizing comments of Umeh, saying that they were unacceptable.
Umeh on his own part had pointed out that he was not invited to the said meeting and said those sponsoring the crisis in the party wants to portray him in bad light. “If there is anybody that wants peace in APGA, it is Umeh.
I have never instigated any crisis in APGA. It is therefore hypocritical that the people who are instigating and sponsoring crisis in APGA are now trying to portray me as somebody who is not amenable to reconciliation.”
Meanwhile, eleven members of the National Working Committee, 35 state chairmen and 29 National Executive Committee members loyal to Umeh have appointed the son of the late leader of the party, Emeka Ojukwu as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees. Ojukwu expressed joy at his appointment as a member of the board and said his father would have supported Umeh if he were still alive.
His words: “In the absence of my father, the least I can do is to represent him well. If my father were here, he will support Umeh. I am saying that the governor should look for a better way to work with Umeh. If he were to be alive, there would be no crisis at all.
My father trusted APGA with Chief Victor Umeh. They had a good working relationship. In fact, the successes being achieved by Gov. Peter Obi are to a large extent the actions and decisions taken by Chief Victor Umeh as national chairman of APGA.”
