Mr. Bamigbetan, a former Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos, was kidnapped on Monday night at about 11:00 p.m. while being driven home by his driver.
The kidnappers reportedly shot into the air as the chairman was being driven into his street in Ejigbo. They stopped his car, beat his driver, and took him away.
Mr. Bamigbetan, a former students’ union leader of Obafemi Awolowo University is very active on social media, using every opportunity to discuss his task, challenges and achievements as a council chairman.
His kidnappers have reportedly demanded a ransom of $1 million (N155 million). A source close to the politician said negotiations are ongoing with the kidnappers.
The Lagos Police said they have commenced investigations into the kidnap while the Oodua Peoples Congress has mandated its members in the South West to be part of the search for the council boss.
His friends and followers on Facebook have bombarded the page with prayers, and pleas for the kidnappers to release the council boss.
