Why 562 Teachers to Be Sacked in BauchiGovernor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State has approved firing a total of 562 unqualified teachers and approved the re-engagement of 1,546 whose certificates were found to be genuine and who had passed a proficiency examination.
Mr. Ishola Michael Adeyemi, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, has revealed the statement which said “a total of 553 teachers who were absent in both the first and second proficiency examinations without genuine reasons have been dismissed from government service with immediate effect. Nine teachers who were found with fake ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level certificates have also been dismissed from service.”
The Press Secretary further mentioned that the payment of salaries for the re-engaged teachers is with effect from the current month, September.
The approval for re-engagement was contained in a memo presented to the governor by chairman of the Teachers Service Commission, Yahaya Baba.
Mr. Adeyemi also noted that certificates of 1,386 others are still with the verification committee for authentication.
Nevertheless, 96 teachers who failed the first proficiency examination, but passed the second proficiency examination have been re-engaged.
“The governor also approved the immediate re-engagement of 165 teachers who have fake ‘0’ level certificates but original ‘A’ level certificates, but with an ultimatum to enrol for the Pivotal Teachers Training Programme (PTTP)”, Mr. Adeyemi said.
The Press Secretary added that the demotion of some teachers will allow government to have more funds to recruit additional teachers.
Governor Isa Yuguda also approved the re-engagement of 120 teachers who failed both the first and second proficiency examinations, but have genuine certificates, part of the statement also read.
