Former PDP chieftain Olabode George who was convicted for N84 billion fraud filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in 2009 has been discharged and aquitted of all charges at a Lagos High Court today, November 13. The Supreme court ruled that the contract splitting for which he was convicted then was not yet a crime saying it was not in tandem with the provisions of the constitution.
Similarly, former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai who has been on trial since 2008 for revoking a plot of land from its previous owners – Power Holding Company of Nigeria Plc – and re-award same to his wife, Hadiza Ahmed El-Rufai was also aquitted by an Abuja High Court this morning.
