Apparently, it's Christmas season for some people, and it's Campaign season for others. Abuja has been "fllooded" with pro-President Jonathan posters.
The posters of beaming and saluting Jonathan were planted in the FCT on Christmas Eve. In the morning the residents woke up and saw the posters unaware of who placed them and why.
It will be recalled that the previous posters of the President were placed in the Asokoro and Maitama areas; however, the latest ones were mostly concentrated in Garki and the the suburbs of Abuja.
One of such posters, signed by a group called 'The Nigeria Mandate 2015,' read, "Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year."
Responding to the development, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said the President had nothing to do with it.
According to Mr. Abati, it would be improper of the President to begin 'campaigning,' as he is yet to announce his 2015 ambitions.
"The President does not know anything about the posters, which are being displayed in the cities," Mr. Abati said. "Someone had earlier called from Port Harcourt to enquire about those who placed them and I told them the truth that the publicity materials did not emanate from the Presidency. We don't know anything about them."
It is worth noting that the incumbernt President has repeately declared that it is too early for his administration to begin to campaign for re-election in 2015. He says he would rather concentrate on serving Nigerians rather than dissipate energy on an election that is still far away.
The president, who is facing stiff opposition from the north over a second term, is expected to unfold his re-election programme early next year.
