Pictured above is Dasha Zhukova, the 32-year-old wife of a Russian oil billionaire Roman Abramovich. Yesterday, when the world marked the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, she gave an interview posing on a half-naked 'black woman' chair.
Zhukova has since claimed the photograph was “published completely out of context” and was in fact “a commentary on gender and racial politics.”
Actually, the chair she is sitting on is sculpture by British pop-artist Allen Jones, who is best known for sexually provocative sculptures like Chair, Table and Hat Stand (1969), which present the female figure as a piece of furniture.
Was that art, or just inappropriate?
