The estranged wife of late High Chief Kingsley Chukwu of Mgbuosimini community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas of Rivers State, Mrs Onyekasi Chukwu has confessed to masterminding the killing of her husband, following his purported move to marry another woman who was already allegedly pregnant for him.
The suspect was said to have confessed before the police at the homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that she and her brother, now at large, took the assassins to the house.
One of the suspects, who was arrested shortly after the incident around the federal Housing Estate, Agip by 1.00am last Thursday with blood stains, told the police that the deceased was drugged by his wife before their arrival for the operation.
He said that this made it easy for them to kill him without resistance. His confession was said to have led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Mrs Onyekasi Chukwu. Meanwhile, the eldest daughter of the deceased, Miss Chile Anne Chukwu, says she is ashamed that her mother and her family members could be involved in the killing of her father.
Speaking in an interview with The Tide, Miss Chile who said that, she heard of the incident, while processing her admission in a tertiary institution at Cotonou, Republic of Benin, describing the act as cruel and barbaric.
She also denied that her father planned to marry a second wife, as no such thing was made known to the family. She added, however that even if her father planned to take a second wife, it did not justify the action of her mother to kill him.
Also speaking, the senior brother of the deceased, Mr Fyneface Chukwu, who narrated that he was woken up from sleep by his late brother's wife around 1.00am, denied that it was a robbery attack.
He said that on rushing to the house, he saw the mutilated body of his brother lying in a pool of blood, noting that it was at this point that he called the police.
Mr Fyneface, called for thorough investigation by the police to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased.
When contacted on phone, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ben Ugwuegbulam said he was yet to be briefed on the incident, and promised to call back.
It would be recalled that, Chief Kingsley Chukwu, a senior staff of Nigerian Agip Oil Company was allegedly killed by assassins in his house at Mgbuosimini in the early hours of last Thursday.
