The party said this in a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Dauda Kolawole, in reaction to a newspaper publication that indicated that the two former governors had set up a 10-man committee to harmonise their ambition to rule the state in 2015.
Describing the re-union as a gang-up of “a sparrow and crocodile”, it said politics in the state, as well as the electorate’s perception transcended the realm of violence for which the former governors were known.
It read, “We wish the two of them well in their gang-up to upstage our government. But, we want to assure them that they will soon find out that our people have since left the realm of such politics.
“The politics that we play in Oyo State now is that of interrogating whoever wants to ask for the people’s votes. What this means is that our people would ask them questions. It is no longer a politics of thug for thugs, violence for violence.”
Urging the people of the state to beware of the move, it said, “Their coming together, for the people of Oyo State, can be likened to that of a sparrow and a crocodile. It will end up in disaster.
“Hundreds of our people were killed in the two former governors’ turf war. Our state was labelled a theatre of war. If you left your home for office in the morning, you were not sure you would come back in one piece in the evening.
“It went so bad that our House of Assembly became a theatre of war, where a driver sat on the Speaker’s chair to hit the gavel on the table. This is one of the questions our people would ask.”
