BREAKING NEWS: Several Feared Dead As Gunmen Invade Bama, Borno (UPDATED)

 

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect attacked Bama, a town 135km from Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

Borno state senator Ahmed Zanna said the attack had lasted for five hours on Wednesday morning.
The casualty figure is still unknown.
There has not been yet an official confirmation from the police or the military.
There was a heavy exchange of gunfire between the insurgents and security operatives.
The residents of the state whose relatives in Bama sent distress calls before dawn said the attackers stormed the town at about 4 a.m.‬‬
"Many may have been killed because the attack was launched when the residents were fast asleep," a Maiduguri resident whose relative contacted him from Bama said.‬
The attacks comes 24 hours after a the Senior special assistant to the president on public affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe stated the Nigerian army was "winning the war" on the Boko Haram "guerrilla warfare".
He also faulted the comments made by Governor of Borno state Kashim Shettima who said that Boko Haram was better armed that the Nigerian military.
It will also be recalled that one of the latest attack occurred on Saturday when Boko Haram invaded Izghe Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State leaving 146 people dead.
