No fewer than two persons were said to have died while 12 others sustained various degrees of injuries in a road traffic accident, Tuesday, at Igieduma, along the Benin-Auchi highway in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo state.
Meanwhile, the Police in Benin is investigating the case of two brothers who died in an accident involving a strayed cow, a motorcycle and car even as the owner of the cow is now cooling his feet with the police.
According to the Iruekpen Unit Commander of FRSC, Mr. Eshiet Udeme, the accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus travelling to Benin from the North occurred due to fatigue of the driver.
FRSC sources disclosed that the remains of the victims had been deposited in an unnamed hospital in the area.
The accident in Oben Community, outskirts of the state capital, resulting in the death of two brothers, Jude and Emeka Louis, occurred when the motorcycle they were riding from work allegedly had a head-on collision with a Volkswagen car.
Both motorcycle and car were allegedly trying to avoid killing the cow, which, however, sustained injuries from the accident.
However, Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Mr. Moses Eguaveon, confirmed the story, saying that the owner of the cow, which died from the injuries from the accident, has been arrested and detained to explain how his cow strayed on to the road to cause the accident.
“The police are on top of the case. The police are presently investigating the case of an accident involving a motorcycle and a car in which two persons died. Once the police conclude investigation on the accident, the outcome will be made known to the public.
The cow died from the injuries that it sustained. What the law says is that any perishable material must be disposed off. Since, the cow is a perishable material, it has been disposed with.
