An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ court on Wednesday, remanded Abayomi Osire in prison custody for allegedly killing his wife, Moyinoluwa, with a matchet.
The police prosecutor, Bamikole Olasunkanmi told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 17 at 9:00 a.m. at Nova Road, Basiri, Ado-Ekiti.
He said the accused unlawfully caused the death of his wife during a disagreement between them.
The prosecutor said that he had duplicated the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
He said the offence the accused was charged with was not ordinarily bailable.
According to Olasunkanmi, the offence contravenes the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2012.
However, the counsel to the accused, Mr Paul Apom, prayed the court to grant bail to his client and promised that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Simeon Ojo, refused Olasunkanmi’s prayer and ordered the accused to be remanded till the DPP gave advice.
He adjourned the case till May 29 for further hearing.
