Pirates Attack Passenger Boat, Kill 2 In Ekeowe Waterways

 

Following several kidnap incidents in the new year in Bayelsa governed by absentee Gov Dickson, armed sea pirates on Friday attacked a passenger boat along the Ekeowe waterways in Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa and killing two.
Ekeowe community hosts the newly established federal polytechnic. According to survivors of the attack the boat was attacked as it approached Ekeowe town.
The attack, which the survivors told SaharaReporters occurred at about 7am on Friday lasted for about 35 minutes with the attackers making away with the remains of the victims in a separate boat.
One of those who survived the attack told the reporter: "At about 7am, sea pirates attacked travelers near Ekeowe end of Southern Ijaw Local Government area and made away with huge cash and corpse of two passengers."
According to him, while the attack was ongoing, passenger boats that passed by sent distress calls to soldiers of the Joint Task Force guarding oil facilities at the Peremabiri and Olugbobiri areas but they failed to rescue the victims.
Spokesman for the Bayelsa Police Command, Mr.Alex Akhigbe could not be reached for comments.
However Police Sources confirmed that a signal was received on some pirate attack along the water ways.
