Israel's ex-PM Ariel Sharon Dies After 8 Years in Coma
The ex-PM had been on life support and out of the public eye since suffering a massive stroke eight years ago.
He was being treated at the Sheba Medical Center outside Tel Aviv.
Ariel Sharon was a giant of the Israeli military and political scene, but courted controversy throughout his long career.
To many Israelis, Sharon was a heroic warrior, having led decisive campaigns in the 1967 and 1973 wars. But to many Palestinians he was The Butcher, who was responsible for the deaths of thousands of civilians in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Lebanon in 1982.
Doctors said Ariel Sharon's condition worsened in the last few days as several of his organs, including his kidneys, malfunctioned. His health was showing signs of "a slow and gradual deterioration".
In December 2005, PM Sharon suffered a mild stroke. A second, major stroke in January 2006 sent  'The Bulldozer' into a coma from which he never awoke.
May his soul rest in peace.
