The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State on December 3, 2013, Tuesday, said it arrested seven suspected homosexuals.
Alhaji Mohammad Gidado, the NSCDC Commandant, made this known when he paraded the suspects to newsmen in Dutse.
The Commandant revealed that said the parents of one of the suspects reported him to the corps. The arrested suspect gave information, which led to the arrest of other gaymen.
Mohammad Gidado described the suspects’ activities as “barbaric, animalistic and nasty”, adding that the alleged homosexuals were between the ages of 18 and 25 years.
The Commandant urged parents and teachers to monitor the movement of their children and wards in order to prevent them from engaging in such acts.
“Parents and teachers need to do more in guiding our youths. This kind of behaviour from our future generation is bad,” he said.
Mohammad Gidado further stated the suspects would soon be charged to court.
One of the suspects, a university undergraduate, told the newsmen that he had been a gay for the past six years. He also confessed that he used to commit the crime with his friends and children in his area.
