A 90-year-old man, who was former president of the Ondo State branch of Master Bakers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Musa Adisa, popularly known as Labaika, has been abducted from his home by a three-member gang suspected to be kidnappers.
Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday when the old man was on his way to observe his morning prayers at a mosque located about 20 metres from his 121, Isolo Street, Akure home.
The armed men were said to have parked a red Toyota Camry car besides the mosque, and allegedly held him when he was about to enter the place of worship.
An eyewitness, who had earlier arrived at the mosque to call the faithful to prayer, said the old man was forcibly seized by two members of the gang.
He said, “The men covered Alhaji’s mouth and forced him into the waiting vehicle that drove off as they shot into the air to scare residents.”
A search party was hurriedly put together by residents of the area as they combed the vicinity, while another team moved towards the Akure Plaza route that the victim was driven to, but no trace of him was found.
The matter was reported to the Ijapo Police Station where officers sent signals of the incident to other police formations.
A son of the victim, Alhaji Musibau Iyiola who took over as the state President of the Master Bakers, appealed to the kidnappers to release his father, who he said had been sick for some time due to old age
He said the man usually manage to walk across to the mosque to observe his prayers.
The Public Relations Officer, Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Wole Ogodo, confirmed the abduction of the old man.
He however, said, “The police is winning the war against kidnappers as several of them have been arrested lately. The old man would be found and rescued by detectives.”
