President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the composition and appointment of the chairmen and members of the Governing Councils of 21 Federal Government-owned universities.
A statement on Wednesday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim said the dates for the formal inauguration of the Boards would be announced in due course by the Minister of Education.
According to him, the Governing Council shall also include the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, one person from the Federal Ministry of Education, four persons appointed by the Senate from among its members, two persons appointed by the congregation from among its members and one person appointed by convocation from among its members.
The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, University, Bauchi has Yahaya Mahamood (SAN) as Chairman while other members are Hajia Hauwa Bukar, Alhaji Isa Tafida Mafindi, Chief Mark Odua and Dr. (Mrs.) Chinweokwu Anyamene-Okeke.
For the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Arc. Mohammed Dewu is chairman while a former Inspector-General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro, Mrs Moremi Soyinka-Onijala, Suleiman Lawal Kauru and the Managing Director of The Sun Newspapers, Mr. Tony Onyima, are to function as members.
Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi: Chief Chike Cletus Udenze (Chairman), Pivlumon Aminde, Princess Ethel Eweka, Rear Admiral Peter Ebeleme (Rtd) and Abdul-Mujib Adetokunbo Mumuni (members).
University of Ilorin: Prof. Chukwuma Okonjo (Chairman), Prince Felix Akande, Dr. Abdulrasheed Salam, Dr. S. Ogbere and Dr. Bayo Aluko-Olokun (members)
Federal University of Technology, Minna: Prof. Ahmed Rufai Alkali (Chairman); Dr. Godfrey Imoagene, Ahmed Tahir, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Umar and Prof. Taoheed Adedoja (members).
University of Abuja: Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia (Chairman), Alh. Mahe Dange, Prof O. Adegbulube, Aisha S. Mamuda, Prof. Ediga Agbo (members).
