In preparation for the rainy seasons and the unavoidable flooding that usually tends to follow, caution is being dished out to people occupying houses that are unlikely to withstand the fall.
The Kwara State Government has advised owners and occupants of dilapidated buildings to vacate or renovate them so as to forestall the collapse of the structures as the rains are about to set in.
The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Bode Olayemi, while inspecting some houses in Ilorin on Monday with officials of the Town Planning and Development Authority issued warnings to citizens.
Olayemi warned those who live in dilapidated structures to be concerned about their safety and relocate to safe abode.
He stated that it was the responsibility of the government to protect the lives and property of the citizens.
He said the measure was to avert casualties that may arise from building collapse.
He warned the prospective developers that failed to follow directives of government on construction will be dealt with.
