A South African police officer has been arrested for stealing meat and alcohol during a supermarket break-in last week, police said on Monday.
The unidentified junior officer from the southern port city of Durban was nabbed on Saturday morning by his colleagues following a tip-off.
According to a police statement, the break-in occurred on Friday evening.
The shop’s door was forcibly opened and a “large quantity of meat and liquor” stolen.
“It is alleged that some of the property stolen from the store was recovered at the policeman’s residence,” said the statement.
More goods were recovered from another man suspected to have bought them from the officer.
The policeman is in custody and is due in court on January 20 for bail hearing.
