Sheikh Gumi: "We Are Sold Out AGAIN!"
Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Mahmud Gumi has just issued a statement via his Facebook page. In it, he shares his views on some current economic and business issues, shedding some light on what, to his mind, the agenda of the future Nigerian President shoud be. Read the full text of his address below:
WE ARE SOLD OUT AGAIN
I don't intend to estimate how much of public wealth is spent to build institutions of social amenities like NEPA [National Electric Power Authority], NITEL [Nigerian Telecommunications Limited], RAILWAYS, NIGERIAN REFINERIES, NIGERIAN AIRWAYS etc., but definitely the peanuts-amount paid by largely unknown individuals of these life-line institutions built by patriotic Nigerian past leaders calls for sober reflection.
In the past, local chiefs have played a great but damaging role in selling their own citizen as slaves to the white slave-merchants in the southwestern and eastern coast. It is then not absolutely surprising how unpatriotic some African rulers especially those mentally colonized can be in selling their national assets to foreign exploiters or their Nigerian show-face. Otherwise who in Nigeria through hard work can earn N404b Naira to buy NEPA?
If any of the buyers has anything to do with government officials, the sell is null and void, because that is pure nepotism. However, if such a buyer enjoys exclusive government privileges like the licenses to import sugar or any commodity denied others, then such also is a sham sell.
No doubt, public institutions can no longer be managed as efficiently as private corporations, therefore, the need to allow healthy competitive investments by companies that must spend 80 percent of their profits internally if they happened to be foreign. But that is not the case in Nigeria. Just as an example, we heard that Companies like MTN who enjoys a lot of privileges is not investing enough in infrastructures to commensurate with the costumer load of millions of subscribers internally.
When NITEL and other corporations were sold meagerly to TRANSCORP [Transnational Corporation of Nigeria] by Obasanjo, president Yar'Adua came and patriotically revoked such phony contracts. Public assets should only be sold as tiny shares giving every Nigerian the opportunity to buy and sell his shares which should be initially allocated to the level of the LG's.
Ask any surgeon, an inflamed organ or tissue is not cut through. Any nation suffering from political and ethno-religious tensions should never put its assets for sell. Only a fool will buy such assets. I have the ardent belief that those that 'bought' or dash themselves Nigerian assets will lose all, as soon – in sha Allah  the people's wealth will ultimately return to the rightful owners.
This is should be one of the first duties of the next President. You duty is to elect one that is 100% patriotic and conscious of your rights and assets.
May Allah Protect us all from all evil. Amin.
What do you think of his words?
