Champions League Qualification: Arsenal Smashes Fenerbahce & Other Results

Champions League Qualification: Arsenal Smashes Fenerbahce & Other Results
Arsenal put their recent troubles to one side as they comfortably beat Fenerbahce 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League play-off in Turkey.
Arsenal clicked into gear after a dire first-half and went ahead when Theo Walcott’s pass across the face of goal was turned in by Kieran Gibbs.

Ten minutes later they doubled their lead. Aaron Ramsey found himself in space on the edge of the Fenerbahce area and he fired in a low shot which Volkan Demirel could only parry into his bottom corner.
Walcott then superbly controlled a crossfield ball before being bundled over by Michal Kadlec in the box leaving the referee with little option but to point to the spot. Olivier Giroud slotted home twelve yards to compound a miserable night for the hosts.
Fenerbahce struggled to retain possession throughout the match and subsequently failed to create many chances of note, Kadlec coming the closest when his late shot from inside the area forced Wojciech Szczesny to stretch and save.

In other matches of the day the following results have been fixed:
Dinamo Zagreb 0 - 2      Austria Wien (goals - Marin Leovac, 68`, Marko Stankovic 75`)
PFC Ludogorets Razgrad              2 - 4      Basel (goals - Marcelo Nascimento da Costa, 23`, Ivan Stoyanov, 50`; Mohamed Salah, 12`, 59`, Giovanni Sio, 64`, Fabian Schär (pen.) 84`)
