Justice Adeniyi Adebajo of a Lagos High Court and three of his siblings accused of attempt to kill their mother, Mrs. Irene Adebajo, have been absolved of any criminality by the police.
The judge, sitting at the criminal division of the state High Court, was accused alongside his two siblings, Gboyega and Wemimo, in several petitions allegedly signed by their mother, and some NGOs to have planned to “assault, brutalise, harass and threatening the life” of the octogenarian to inherit her property.
Investigations also revealed that the petitions were written due to disagreements between the children of the aged woman, Princess Gloria Adebajo-Fraser, who was accused by the judge and others of taking custody of their mother because of her state of health, without the consent of family members.
Sequel to its investigations and interrogations of the respondents, including the judge, police declared the petitions “frivolous and lacking evidence.”
Police, in the final copy of a report issued on its investigations, including forensic examinations carried out on the signatures contained in the petition, noted: “It perceived the petitions to be frivolous and would not be taken serious for want of evidence.”
The report of the examinations of the document signed by the Forensic Document Examiner, ASP R. A. Onwuzu-ligbo dated April 16, indicated that the petitions purportedly signed by the mother of Justice Adebajo may have been authored by two different persons.
“It was established from the available findings that it is more of a family issue as the petitioner is of age and her only daughter, one Princess Gloria Adebajo-Fraser took custody of her because of her state of health due to old age, though without the consent of her brothers or other members of the family and this development caused disharmony in the relationship between them which resulted in the allegations,” the police report said.
