ENUGU — The Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has
described the death of Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mr Chinweike
Asadu, in the hands of assassins in Enugu as a great loss to the Police
Force and nation in general.
The IG, who stated this during a courtesy call on Governor Sullivan
Chime of Enugu State, described the late police commissioner as a
gentleman who was committed to his duties.
He said: “To the police, he was a brother, a friend and a colleague.”
Abubakar said he had been on routine tour of state police commands in
the country, and used the opportunity to thank God for the safe return
and recovery of Governor Chime and prayed that he would complete his
tenure in good health.
Also speaking, Minister for Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade, who
accompanied the IG, disclosed that they were also in Enugu to open a
Police Intelligence school in the city.
He said the Police was committed to showing concern for its officers
to boost their morale and let them know that their efforts in serving
the police were not in vain.
In his response, Chime reiterated the commitment of the state to
partner with the police to ensure a crime-free society, adding that his
government had already procured 100 patrol vehicles that would soon be
delivered to the police as soon as they were fitted with gadgets.
He said: “Enugu is reputed to be the safest in the southern zone and we want it to remain so, we are not joking with security.”
Meanwhile, Governor Abudlfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, has expressed
his condolence to his Enugu State counterpart, Chime, and the people of
Enugu State over the death Asadu.
In a letter to Governor Chime, Ahmed said he shared the shock and
grief of the government and people of Enugu State over the unfortunate
incident and condemned what he called reckless disrespect for the
sanctity of human lives.
He said the late Asadu served the people of Kwara State diligently,
adding that his commitment to peace and security in the state would not
be forgotten.
