Group Accuses Governor Dickson Of Muzzling Human Rights In Bayelsa

 

An activist group, the National Youths Standing With Accountability and Good Governance (National Youths S.W.A.G.G Network), has called for the immediate and unconditional release of Tonye Okio, a citizen reporter and social media activist.
Mr. Okio was allegedly arrested over two months ago on the direct orders of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Henry Seriake Dickson.
According to National SWAGG, in a statement signed by Ahman1 Victory, Julius Ebi and Brown Ayo, Mr. Okio spent Christmas in detention with hardened criminals, denied access to his family, and seems set to spend the New Year there as well.
“As we write to you today in freedom, a fellow Nigerian is suffering an unimaginable political persecution,” the group lamented.

PDP Cautions Aides Of Elected Officials On Public Statements

 

 

The National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has cautioned aides of its elected officials to desist from making statements that could cast aspersions on such officials.
This was contained in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, on Monday in Abuja. Mr. Metuh was reacting to statements about the proposed National Conference made by an aide of Governor Martins Elechi of Ebonyi and credited to the governor.
The aide’s statement showed Mr. Elechi’s disapproval and rejection of the conference. Mr. Metuh said the statement portrayed the governor in a bad light.

A 48-year-old man, David Olanrewaju Ajofolowo has been arraigned in Magistrates’ Court 8, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State for duping a physically challenged lady.
He is facing a four-count charge of conspiring with one other person to obtain money from the physically-challenged lady identified as Tawa  by pretending to want to assist her to process her travelling to India for a hip replacement surgery.
According to Tawa, her hips were displaced after her legs became deformed as a result of an accident she had at age seven. Surgery was supposed to be carried out by the University College Hospital, Ibadan but she was told at the UCH that there were no facilities to handle her case. This prompted the hospital to refund the N1.5million to her account.

F1 legend Michael Schumacher fighting for his life following horrific skiing accident

Retired Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, 44, is fighting for his life after he fell and hit his head on a rock while skiing off piste with his 14-year-old son Mick in the resort of Meribel in the French Alps yesterday morning Sunday December 29th.

Doctors who treated the seven-time Formula One world champion said he would ‘have died’ had he not been wearing a crash helmet. But despite the helmet, Michael Schumacher suffered serious head injuries that has left him in a coma since the accident. The German driver required immediate brain surgery as he got to the hospital and is currently being kept in an induced coma, officials said.

A recent video done by SaharaReporters staff shows a number of property allegedly belonging to Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience.

It is also worth noting that in 2006, his wife had been investigated on money laundering allegations. Although she was never found guilty or convicted of any wrongdoing, she was investigated by an anti-corruption committee for having had allegedly laundered more than $13 million. The evidence wasn't strong enough for a conviction.

Aremu got married quietly on Saturday December 7th in Abuja to a woman believed to be older than he is, but Aremu says he doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, his wife or their marriage. The actor said his wife is not as rich as people think and that contrary to reports, his wedding wasn't a secret and his famous older brother was at his wedding.

Startling CCTV footage shows the little girl with a colourful backpack entering the store, sneaking into the section with the jewellery. A few seconds pass, and she reapperars carrying a bundle of money, which, according to the reports, contained over 500,000 Saudi Ryal (N23,767,619).

2014: FG To Maintain Presidential Jets With N1.52Bn - Punch

The Federal Government has budgeted N1.52b for the maintenance of the 10 aircraft currently in the Presidential Air Fleet in 2014.

The maintenance cost is slightly higher than the N1.5bn proposed as the initial deposit for the purchase of additional aircraft that will bring the number of aircraft in the fleet to 11.

This is apart from the N747m earmarked for the purchase of aviation fuel for the aircraft already in the fleet.

2014 budget: Outrage over allocations for zoo, new jet

There was outrage on Sunday over some allocations to the Presidency as well as ministries, departments and agencies  of the Federal Government  in the 2014 budget.

 The anger was expressed by the Arewa Consultative Forum, the  Northern Elders Forum and the Civil Society Legislative and Advocacy Centre and the Anti-Corruption Network and activists.

They  condemned  the allocations for the Villa Zoo  and  the amount budgeted for President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo’s local and foreign trips.

According to them, the allocations are not only wasteful, they boldly signpost government’s    insensitivity  to the plight of Nigerians.
