Two Persons Killed, Thousands Displaced Following Agatu Attacks

At least two persons were killed, and over 6,000 others were displaced following attacks by alleged cattle rearers on Ikpele and Okpopolo communities in Agatu local government area of Benue state on Tuesday.
John Ngbede, State Commissioner of Works, said in an interview that, after attacking said communities, the suspects made their way towards Iwali village.
Mr. Ngbede said his Agatu West kinsmen have deserted their homes to seek shelter at the local government headquarters in Ogbagaji, or at their relatives' in neighbouring locations. Children have stopped schooling.
The commissioner therefore appealed to the chairman of Omala local government in Kogi state to beef up security in his Bagana axis, the route through which the invaders have gained access into Agatu in recent times.
Contacted, spokesman of the Benue police, Daniel Ezeala confirmed the incident, but said only one person was killed while two others were injured.
