Delta State Government Still Willing To Reclaim $15m Ibori "Bribe Money"

 

 

Asaba, Delta State - The state government will continue its bid to reclaim $15 million, the sum allegedly used by the former Delta state Governor James Ibori to bribe a member of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission back in 2007.
State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Charles Ajuyah (SAN), spoke to jornalists yesterday, while taking his turn to present the mid-term report of his ministry. Mr. Ajuyah said the State government would not be held aback by last week’s judgment by a Federal High Court in Abuja, which refused to grant ownership of the money to the state government.
The Judge said the State government is studying the judgement, and will act in accordance with it, looking at the "variables" at the same time.

Confession: I Was Betrayed By Colleagues And Friends – Justice Salami

 

 

Freshly retired President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Ayo Salami, on Thursday confessed that his colleagues and friends in the judiciary betrayed him during his trying time.
Justice Salami, who retired October 15 as the Court’s of Appeal fifth President, spoke during a valedictory court session held in his honour by the court. Justice Salami, dressed in the ceremonial gown of Justices of the court, presided over proceedings. He sat on the seat he occupied until August 18, 2011 when he was purportedly suspended by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Philosophically drawing a parallel between his case and that of the biblical Joseph who was sold to slavery by his family members, Justice Salami faulted the role the National Judicial Council (NJC) played in the events leading to his suspension.

The committee alleged that Oduah, who  finally appeared before it  on Thursday after  failing to honour  earlier invitations,  did not follow the budget approved for the Aviation ministry and its agencies  by the National Assembly.

Next Chapter In ALUU 4 Murder Case As Court Admits Video Evidence

 

 

Port Harcourt — A new chapter has been opened in the gruesome case of four young UNIPORT students' murder in Omoukiri-Aluu.
A Youtube video evidence of the murder has been admitted  as evidence by a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt as an exhibit in the ongoing trial of the suspected culprits.
In his ruling, the trial judge Justice Latan Nyordee admitted the video, following defence counsel's questioning its admissibility.
The video footage was tendered by the prosecution, but the defence argued that the video did not originate from the police.
Justice Nyordee, in his ruling, noted that the tendered video footage, irrespective of its source, was bound to be admitted as exhibit to the extent of its relevance to the trial as overriding every other consideration.

 

Governor Rotimi Amaechi and President Goodluck Jonathan

THERE were indications that President Goodluck Jonathan, the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, and his Bayelsa State counterpart, Mr. Seriake  Dickson, on Thursday had a closed-door meeting in Rivers State.

The venue and agenda of the meeting were not clear as at the time of sending this report.

However, sources said the ongoing feud between the Peoples Democratic Party and the seven rebel governors loyal to the New PDP could be part of the discussion.

PDP Calls APC Hypocritical, Accuses Of Poaching G-7 Governors

 

 

Apparently rattled by the meeting between the leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the G-7 governors in Sokoto on Tuesday, and the ones held yesterday in Kano, Yola and Dutse, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the APC of poaching the governors.
The G-7 are PDP governors in the Abubabar Baraje faction of the ruling party. The seven governors are Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Musa Kwankwaso (Kano); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara).
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP said the APC “desperately coaxed” the governors and celebrating “mere discussions” with them.
What is more, the APC is called a “hypocritical party lacking in genuine ideology and principles”, which lacks true partnership and electable materials at all levels.
According to the PDP the attempt to poach the governors will fail.

A 13 year old boy from California has been sentenced to between seven and 10 years in a juvenile prison for killing his neo-Nazi father.

The unnamed boy was 10 when he shot his father, Jeff Hall, dead.
The 32-year-old was shot at point-blank range as he snoozed on a sofa at home on 1 May 2011.
During his trial, lawyers argued he had killed his father to stop him separating from the boy's stepmother.
Defence lawyers for the boy say he grew up in an abusive environment, and had emotional and learning disabilities.
He will be eligible for parole when he is 20.
Jeff Hall was the regional director for a neo-Nazi group called the National Socialist Movement. He had led Nazi-style rallies in his hometown of Riverside, according to the Press-Enterprise newspaper

US Authorities Could Not Imagine They Would Discover THIS In A Secret Drug Passage On US-Mexico Border

 

 

A tunnel designed to smuggle drugs from Tijuana, Mexico, to San Diego is equipped with electricity, ventilation and a rail system, US authorities revealed on Thursday, October 31, making it one of the more sophisticated secret passages discovered along the US-Mexico border.
Authorities seized more than 8 tons of marijuana and 325 pounds of cocaine in connection with the discovery, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said.
The tunnel links warehouses in Tijuana and San Diego's Otay Mesa industrial area. The area is filled with nondescript warehouses, making it easier to conceal trucks being loaded with drugs.
The tunnel was found Wednesday and completed only recently, ICE said. Authorities did not say exactly when it was built or whether drugs are believed to have gotten through undetected.
As US border security has heightened on land, Mexican drug cartels have turned to ultralight aircraft, small fishing boats and tunnels. More than 75 underground passages have been discovered along the border since 2008, designed largely to smuggle marijuana.

Upon arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport at 2pm on Thursday, President Goodluck Jonathan, headed to Okrika home town of his wife Dame Patience, where they were conferred with chieftaincy titles by King E.D.I Obudibo, Ikwo V of Ogoloma.

The community was excited as the people were in celebration mood. Masquerades were seen on display on some streets in the town.
Ahead of the funeral of Dame Patience's mother, Madam Charity Oba, cows and bags of rice had been distributed to the various war canoe houses in the town to ensure the funeral venue was not overcrowded, Vanguard reports.
The various compounds were also given money to make provision for canopies and other things to spice up the merriment.
There were about three gun boats on the Okrika river to ensure security of lives of those travelling to the funeral by boat. Free boats were available to convey people of the riverine areas to the funeral. Also at the jetty in Okrika, some shuttle buses were on ground to convey people to the venue of the event.

 Among the millions of trick-or-treaters scavenging for candy tonight will be a group of neighbors in Texas doing all they can to help a girl who will turn 14 on Saturday and is in need of a heart transplant.

Anna King, of The Woodlands, has been waiting 538 days for a new heart after being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in 2012. The cardiomyopathy, believed to have been caused by a virus, has left Anna's heart swollen and unable to pump properly, meaning the teenager is unable to attend school full-time or participate in normal teen activities like playing soccer and going to the mall.
When a local mortgage broker learned from his wife, who was Anna's sixth-grade teacher at the time she was diagnosed, that Anna was still, nearly two years later, on the waiting list for a life-saving transplant, he figured out how he could help.
The broker, Jason Higham, arranged to have his company, Cherry Creek Mortgage, host "Halloween for a Heart" today to raise money for Anna's medical care.
"I was both surprised and amazed," Anna's father, Joe King, told GoodMorningAmerica.com. "We haven't been here that long and it was nice to have people who are relatively new in our life to reach out in such a big way."
Cherry Creek's employees set up an online fundraising page that has already exceeded their initial goal of $10,000. Today they'll host a costume contest, silent auction and a "haunted hallway" of trick-or-treating for the community in their local office to raise even more money for Anna.

Syria has destroyed or rendered inoperable all of its declared chemical weapons production, meeting November 1 deadline in a disarmament program, the international chemical weapons watchdog reported today.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), this year's Nobel Peace winner, said its teams had inspected 21 out of 23 chemical weapons sites across Syria. The remaining two were said to be too dangerous to reach. The chemical equipment, however, had been moved to other sites that experts had visited, OPCW said.

53 Nigerians Arrested For Protesting A Murder Of A Fellow National In India

 

 

Goa, India - Fifty three Nigerians were detained today after a mob of about 200 of them blocked a National Highway over the death of a fellow national, prompting the Goa government to announce a major crack-down on foreign nationals living in the state without proper documents.
The mob blocked highway after allegedly ransacking the police hearse van that was carrying the body of a Nigerian, who was found dead with multiple stab wounds last night, police said.
Following the incident, the police would comb the entire state and locate Nigerians and other foreign nationals staying without visa and other documentation.
Police officers said that the murder was fall-out of a gang rivalry in the drug trade.
Of the 53 Nigerians who were detained today, those involved in the ruckus would be arrested and the documents of others would be verified, the police said.
Locals people were said to have brutally beaten up two Nigerians protesting on the road, who were admitted to the district hospital. Locals who assaulted the Nigerians would also be booked, the assured.

Fashola Declares War Against Military, Policemen Violating Road Traffic Law

 

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has vowed to prosecute policemen and military officers violating the state’s Road Traffic Law, saying such bad eggs must be dealt with without mercy.
Speaking during the presentation of the 2014 budget proposal to the Lagos State House of Assembly at Alausa in Lagos on Wednesday, the governor decried the attitude of policemen and military officers who break the traffic law with impunity.
“Let me say to them clearly, that it is bad enough if law enforcement personnel violate the laws they are constitutionally paid to enforce, it is the height of impunity if they do so in uniform.”
Fashola said while the traffic law was being obeyed by many Lagosians, “I cannot say the same for a few law enforcement agents and few military personnel who have either turned enforcement into an extortion exercise for money or have seen themselves as above the law by violating our traffic laws and BRT Laws.

Outrage In Senate Over Rape Of Two Year- Old Girl

 

 

Senators on Thursday expressed anger over alleged rape of a two year old girl, Chinwendu Onwudiwe, by a policeman in Mararaba, Nasarawa State. Mararaba, a densely populated area of Nasarawa State, is about five minutes’ drive to the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Abuja.
The alleged police rapist was as one Corporal Anthony Onoja. The lawmakers voiced out their indignation over the incident after Senator Helen Esuene (Akwa Ibom South) presented what was described “a touchy” motion on the “Cruelty to infants” in the country.
Esuene in her lead debate noted that the country has been witnessing acts of cruelty to babies including their being kidnapped, abused and sold as commodities.
She invited the Senate to note “the recent case of criminality in Mararaba area of Nasarawa State meted against a two year old baby girl (Chinwendu Onwudiwe) by no other than a policeman who is supposed to uphold the law.”
The lawmaker said,” on October 20, 2013 the gory news that hit the airwaves as carried by Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) was the sexual assault of a two year old female infant by a neigbour who is a police officer called Corporal Anthony Onoja.”
She noted that though the matter was reported to the police, it was yet to be taken to court.
She said that Section 31 and 32 of the Child’s Right Act “make this case a criminal offence which attracts life imprisonment or 14 years imprisonment depending on the nature of the abuse.”

The hearing was adjourned from yesterday, Wednesday, to allow the aviation minister attend.
The minister was expected at the Wednesday hearing but was absent because she was away in Israel for a bilateral air service agreement signing. The highlight of today’s hearing would be the minister’s appearance.

The Nigerian Army said it had destroyed two suspected operational vehicles of the Boko Haram sect in the ongoing operations in Maiduguri.

The spokesman of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Lt.-Col. Mohammed Dole, announced this in a statement on October 31, 2013, Thursday.

Lt.-Col. Dole revealed the main goal of the destruction was to clear the insurgents terrorising motorists on high ways in Borno.

“We have been able to identify camps used by the terrorists in planning attacks against motorists and innocent villagers in Kaga Local Government Area of the state.

OUTRAGE: Primary School Teacher Nabbed for Allegedly Sodomising 10 Male Students

 

The Police Command of Matabeleland North province, northwest Zimbabwe, has informed about the arrested of a primary school teacher, who was accused of repeatedly sodomising at least 10 male students.

According to the reports of the state media on Thursday, a 24-year-old teacher of Longwe Primary School was arrested after an 8-year-old boy reported to his parents that he was sexually abused.

As the investigation went on, more and more victims found courage and accused the teacher of indecent acts, the provincial police spokesman, Siphiwe Makonese, revealed.

It has been learnt that the teacher even paid money to his victims to keep them silent.

The mentioned 8-year-old boy is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital, as the victim suffered severe injuries on his bottom.

According to Zimbabwean law, non-consensual same-sex behaviour is viewed as aggravated assault, and can attract a maximum of life imprisonment if convicted.

Early Monday morning, a gas station clerk was aiding a customer in finding a specific drink when the customer pulled a gun and demanded that the clerk open the safe.
The clerk was unable to do so, and a second clerk was given the same instruction.
Neither clerk was able to unlock the safe and the gunman left, but not before firing off a single shot.
Police were immediately called to the Hess gas station in Winter Garden, Florida.
While they were interviewing the clerk to gather information, he complained of chest pains. Until then, no one noticed that he had been shot.

Around 8,300 Nigerians, fleeing both attacks by Boko Haram and the heavy-handed response of the security forces in northern Nigeria, have crossed into Cameroon’s Far North since Nigerian President Jonathan Goodluck declared a state of emergency in June.

A 40-year-old widow identified as Mujidat was caught on Wednesday with a dead day old baby hidden in a sack around her home at 2, Reverend Alimi street, NEPA phase 1, Ijagemo in Iba local council development area of Lagos state.
The mother of five was caught by a high Chief, Babatunde Balogun a member of the community when she was trying to dispose the baby at about 5p.m on Wednesday.
According to report, when Balogun questioned her on the content of the sack, she said it contained household items which bought from the market but when he looked closely, he noticed it was a dead day old baby which the woman had allegedly just delivered.

Twelve years after Lauren Kavanaugh was found emaciated and imprisoned in a tiny urine-soaked closet, she has revealed her extraordinary strength.

Speaking to the Dallas Morning News in a series of powerful interviews, the now-20-year-old shared how she has struggled to gain control of her life after suffering six years of sexual, emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Kenneth Atkinson.
'I'm hoping one day I'll be able to have a normal life,' Lauren, who now lives in Canton, Texas with her adoptive mother, told writer Scott Farwell. 'Of course, my life hasn't ever been normal.'
Lauren was nearly two when the courts ordered her adoptive parents, Bill and Sabrina Kavanaugh, to hand her back to her biological mother, Barbara Atkinson.
Atkinson, then Barbara Calhoun, had given up Lauren at birth but eight months later the Kavanaughs received a call that she had changed her mind and wanted the little girl back.
During the adoption process, their lawyer had mistakenly never filed the paperwork to terminate Atkinson's parental rights and they lost on the technicality, sending the little girl back to her mother.
In the following six years, Lauren endured sickening abuse at the hands of the couple, who starved, confined and allegedly raped her and handed her over to other men to sexually abuse.
When she was found in 2001, she weighed just 25.6 pounds, the size of an average two-year-old. She was potbellied with malnutrition and doctors had to use a feeding method devised for Holocaust victims.

Actress Liz Anjorin explains why she dumped christianity for Islam

Popular actress Liz Anjorin surprised many recently when photos of her on Muslim Pilgrimage to Mecca surfaced online. She later announced that she was changing her religion from Christianity to Islam. She also dropped the name Elizabeth and announced that she would like to be addressed as Aisha, in light with her new religion. Liz has finally opened up about why she made the decision..

Liz tells City People

"It happened in a miraculous way which I have been expecting for long, not that I woke up yesterday and decided to change my religion. By birth, I was half Muslim and half Christian. My father was Christian while my mum was Muslim. Growing up I went to church because of my father. I didn't have a choice at the time but I have always had interest in Islam so immediately my father died I switched over to my mum's religion. It is a religion I love so much. Also Aisha is now my official name though Liz is still my name and I will continue to use the name to do movies.
